What is anti-ccp?

Anti-CCP: Anti-CCP (anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide) antibodies are more specific than rheumatoid factor for diagnosing RA. Positive anti-CCP predicts more aggressive disease and helps rheumatologists decide on early aggressive treatment.

Anti-CCP (anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide) antibodies attack proteins the body has slightly modified through a process called citrullination. They are far more specific to rheumatoid arthritis than rheumatoid factor and can appear years before joint symptoms start. A positive anti-CCP in someone with joint pain strongly points to rheumatoid arthritis and predicts a higher risk of erosive damage, so the UK healthcare system uses it early in the diagnostic workup to justify starting DMARDs quickly.
